Smart grid management focuses on the development of technologies and systems for the management and control of the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power in the electric grid. It includes the application of information and communication technologies, sensors and monitoring systems for data collection, integration of renewable generation sources, demand management and control and protection of the electric grid. This area of knowledge also focuses on the development of models and tools for simulation and optimization of the electrical grid.
