The Technology Center based in Salamanca that, with highly qualified talent and participation in different national and international projects, develops innovation and research projects in Artificial Intelligence.
The AIR INSTITUTE Foundation is a private non-profit research organization. It was founded in 2018 and is based in Carbajosa de la Sagrada, Salamanca (Spain).
AIR INSTITUTE works with the mission to promote and develop scientific research in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence.
The AIR Institute is composed of a multidisciplinary team of researchers working to promote innovation in the field of information technology, computer science, artificial intelligence and information and communication technologies (ICT).
AIR INSTITUTE has highly qualified personnel as a result of its participation in different national and international projects, providing valuable experience in many technologies, such as: the use of distributed accounting technologies and / or blockchain and cryptocurrencies, the use of virtual organizations for the design of social computing systems, fog / edge computing mechanisms, development of applications and different types of Cloud platforms, use of natural language processing (NLP) techniques and information extraction, sentiment analysis and other mechanisms for data conceptualization, deep learning systems, development of intelligent algorithms for different purposes (e.g., development of machine learning capabilities or detection of patterns and relationships between data within Big Data systems),social machines for the development of Decision Support Systems (based on hybrid algorithms that combine case-based reasoning with expert mixtures), etc.
“Our goal is to create the technology necessary for society to make the best possible use of Artificial Intelligence and all the technology around it.”
Juan Manuel Corchado
Director of AIR INSTITUTE
AIR INSTITUTE is active in a wide range of areas due to the outstanding knowledge and experience acquired by its members, especially in the areas of predictive maintenance systems, Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things, Bioinformatics, Smart Cities, Social Computing and Blockchain.
Intelligent systems equipment and sensing technologies
The Technology Center is equipped with the latest technologies focused on smart systems and sensing technologies. It includes IoT/smart grid resources with a smart grid mockup, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ibeacons, ZigBee, RFID tags, health sensors, etc., as well as dedicated prototyping equipment used in the different projects.
The main research facilities are established in Béjar, Salamanca (Spain), where the Institute also coordinates an entrepreneurship ecosystem, while the AIR Institute is also located in the Science Park of the University of Valladolid (Spain).
Research, development and training services
The AIR Institute provides research, development (including prototyping) and training services in the following areas:
Blockchain
They investigate different distributed accounting technologies and their applications, ranging from the establishment of smart contracts for traceability in the agri-food industry to the development of cryptocurrencies for peer-to-peer energy exchange.
Cybersecurity
They carry out projects to increase protection against cyber-attacks, performing complete security audits: Code, Web, Mobile, Blockchain, Malware Analysis, Ethical Hacking, etc.
Artificial intelligence
They study and employ deep neural networks in different data learning tasks, e.g., for the detection of similar objects in images, the prediction of health complications or the development of robots that react to human emotions.
They develop solutions based on the use of technology, integrating artificial intelligence, deep learning and machine learning, in the neuroscience, biotechnology, smart cities, cybersecurity or Blockchain sectors.
Internet of Things (IoT)
They develop connected devices that transform indoor and outdoor spaces into intelligent environments. Their creations include sensors in the field to monitor crops and livestock, electronic textiles that prevent hazards in industries, medical devices for early detection of infectious disease outbreaks.
Natural Language Processing (NLP)
They use this processing for numerous purposes, for example, to design robots that are able to have a conversation with humans, recognize people’s feelings or determine their opinion on a topic, among others.
AIR INSTITUTE carries out projects in the fields of Aeronautics and Space, Agriculture, Agri-Food, Automotive, Consumer Goods/Consumer Products, Electronics, Energy, Environment, Financial Services, Healthcare, Telecommunications, Transportation and Logistics.
He is a member of the Confederation of Laboratories for Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe (CLAIRE), and of several Spanish initiatives such as Move2Future, Alastria or IOTEC; he also coordinates the IoT Digital Innovation Hub and is a member of the EDIH DIGIS3 initiative .
