Innovation facilitator foundation dedicated to promoting raw material sustainability in the European industry network

ICAMCyL, International Center for Advanced Materials and Raw Materials of Castilla y León, is a non-profit foundation and competence center dedicated to research and innovation, created by the main industries of Castilla y León in the automotive, manufacturing, advanced materials, engineering, mining and raw materials processing sectors.

It was founded by the main industries of the community and has the support of the Government of Castilla y León.
It participates in the strategy of efficient management of industrial resources, energy efficiency, eco-innovation and substitution of critical materials in order to promote the development of advanced materials for the network of industries in the region and the valorization of the wealth of raw materials in Castilla y León, in line with its Smart Specialization Strategy (RIS3).

The center, located in the technology park of León, was founded thanks to the interest and economic contribution of the main industries of Castilla y León, being patrons or part of its industrial panel relevant international companies in the sectors of mining and transformation of raw materials (TVITEC, PEAL, INTAUXMA), engineering and advanced technology (TELICE, TRESCA) or automotive and aerospace.
In addition, it has access to relevant mining infrastructures, since as a competence center it has selected patrons in the mining sector and associated operators that bring them closer to the industrial value of raw materials and their possible uses and applications.

The Competence Center is dedicated and committed to promoting the competitiveness of the region’s industries, through an Industrial Alliance of 20 SMEs and large companies that defines its own path towards industrial innovation.
Its tool: innovation procurement.

It also promotes the constitution of the Iberian Peninsula Sustainable Mining and Associated Services Cluster (ISMC), which brings together almost 40 regional and national companies from the extractive industry and associated services sector, thus ensuring an adequate exploitation of the results obtained, and is in charge of the Executive Secretariat of the cluster.

Thanks to its participation in the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials (EIP Raw Materials) and in projects such as MIREU (Mining and Metallurgical Regions of Europe), it contributes to the necessary clustering actions in Europe.
In cooperation with the Government of Castilla y León through the General Directorate of Energy and Mines, it defines and adapts regional roadmaps in synergy with the region’s RIS3 and mirroring actions with other European regions and their specialization strategies.

ICAMCyL works in ICT solutions and data management of raw materials and reserves in the territory, creating a database of tails with digital access, contributing to the European initiative RMIS (Raw Materials Information System).

ICAMCyL Scientific Divisions

The Leon Center has different scientific divisions, all of which are supported by its innovation procurement axes:

Innovation Procurement Division

Mining and Materials Processing Division

Circular Economy, Sustainability and Resource Efficiency Division

Additive Manufacturing and Components Division

ICAMCyL is an expert partner in the catalysis of innovation where it acts as a facilitator.
Through resources, technology, digital transformation, energy and CO2, the creation of innovation ecosystems, investment and market strategy, the promotion of innovation and its social value, and business drive and dynamism, the center promotes the sustainability of raw materials, and seeks methods of exploration, processing and classification so that, through new technologies, resources and waste are valorized and used as new raw materials.
