Improving the quality of life of the elderly and dependent people thanks to social robots.

No data was found

The EIAROB project, coordinated by the CARTIF Technology Center, enables the development of a system for independent living at home based on artificial intelligence, mechatronics and social robots.

Project background

Elderly or dependent people face a number of challenges in their daily lives. They may experience a decline in their physical and mental health, making it difficult to perform certain daily activities, and are often forced to deal with a decrease in their independence and autonomy.

Problem/s it solves

CARTIF ‘s EIAROB project is an R&D&I project in which development and experimentation are based on a methodology of open innovation and technological co-creation with users to generate technical solutions based on technologies that enable personal autonomy for the elderly, dependent or disabled.

EIAROB’s main objective is to promote the autonomy and quality of life of elderly and dependent people both at home and in residential centers.

The implementation of the project in real life prevents risk situations and the aggravation of dependency, facilitates the work of professionals in charge of their care and reduces the economic costs associated with the care of people with disabilities or dependency.

Application challenge

EIAROB is divided into 3 application areas: for the development of activities, for home care and support, and as an experimental observatory.

The first axis consists of the development of an ambient intelligence system to support independent living, which will monitor and supervise the user’s activities to establish recommendations and alerts. Social robots will be incorporated as an element to assist the user in the development of activities.

Another focus of the project is the development of mechatronic and robotic solutions for elderly care. Solutions will be developed to provide care and support for moving around the home.

The third axis will consist of the development of an experimental robotics observatory for independent living in Castilla y León.

Final result of CARTIF’s success story

The main value contribution of CARTIF’s project is the improvement of the quality of life of elderly and dependent people.

The actions developed in the project have been diverse in their application. From the integration of social robots as support elements for the resident; the creation of a system that offers care, therapy, leisure, physical stimulation and access to remote help services; the development of robotic systems for the support and movement of the person at home, assistance in movement and support for manipulation; or the establishment of an experimental robotics observatory for independent living in Castilla y León.

The EIAROB project is carried out in coordination with Fundación INTRAS, ASPRODES and the University of Valladolid.
