The Technological Institute of Castilla y León, ITCL, promotes innovation and competitiveness of companies by applying advanced technologies and carrying out R+D+i projects.
ITCL is a private, non-profit Technology Center, created in 1989, accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, closely linked to the industrial ecosystem of Castilla y León, which is dedicated to research and technological development in various areas.
The main mission of the Technological Institute of Castilla y León is to promote innovation and competitiveness of companies through the application of advanced technologies and the implementation of R&D projects of its own and in cooperation with companies at national and international level, developing prototypes, and providing support services for innovation of high added value for SMEs.
The main characteristic of the ITCL is its innovative character, innovation according to market trends and needs in the field of production technologies and related technologies with a common objective: Improvement of productivity.
ITCL develops tools derived from research groups in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, electronic design and embedded systems applied to manufacturing processes and industrial maintenance, intelligent infrastructures, electric mobility and digital health, as well as energy modeling, virtual reality applied to high performance simulators, cyber-physical systems and intelligent artificial perception systems.
As a technology center, it implements R&D&I projects with companies and provides innovation support services:
- Projects of applied or industrial research, development and technological innovation of its own or in cooperation with companies, universities and public research centers or other entities.
- R&D&I projects contracted directly by companies or other private legal entities.
- Technological consulting services for technological diagnostics, technical feasibility studies.
- Specialized technical training.
As a Technology Center, ITCL complies with the criteria established in the accreditation decree: minimum number of permanent contracts, percentage of PhDs on staff, % of income from R&D&I contracts with companies, etc.
ITCL executes more than 180 projects per year, both in client companies and in research projects.
Research areas at ITCL
The technology center in Burgos carries out different areas of research:
Electronics and Artificial Intelligence This research area works on machine learning technologies, Big Data and Data Science, Blockchain, neural networks or artificial intelligence for handling massive data of heterogeneous origin.
Simulation and Virtual Reality Space-time travel that allows virtual training for military and risk environments; machine operation and driving of special vehicles; virtual-augmented reality for heritage, commerce, tourism and museums, among others.
Energy Systems and Models To achieve the mobilization and participation of all sectors, especially industry, in order to increase the competitiveness of the productive sectors and facilitate compliance with national and international environmental commitments.
Advanced research technologies
Intelligent manufacturing
The path towards Industry 4.0 changes the approach of companies towards an industrial revolution that demands changes. The main one, to have intelligent manufacturing systems to achieve the improvement of production processes in the industrial sector.
Health technologies
The application of technology in the health and sanitary field is a true revolution, as well as an advance in the treatment of diseases and the evolution of diagnoses and treatments.
Intelligent transportation
Improving safety and efficiency in transportation by facilitating the work of control, management and efficiency is the objective of an area in expansion.
Deep learning and artificial intelligence
They facilitate the application of Artificial Intelligence to all fields of action, having a specific area that works on the applications of this technology with a wide trajectory and successful application.
Safe and healthy food chain
Technology is presented as an ally for the control of infectious diseases in livestock and agricultural production to achieve one hundred percent control of the food chain.
Protection of information
Cyber-attacks have become one of the main problems within the business world because the level of preparedness for such threats is too often insufficient.
The ITCL Technology Center develops the necessary strategies for the dissemination and exploitation of the results of its R&D activity, facilitating Technology Transfer to national companies, especially SMEs. We offer advanced technological services and cooperate with multiple companies in the design and execution of applied research projects, technological development and innovation, technically and economically viable.
From the Network of Technology Centers we work in an interdisciplinary and integrated manner, covering all technical disciplines and finding innovative solutions in all parts of the processes.
