Valorization of the forest environment as a source of food and raw materials.

We are a national and European reference in the management of multifunctional forestry systems. Our approach covers several areas, such as mycology, natural resins, chestnut growing, pine nuts, cork, aromatic plants and pasture farming. We work in close collaboration with agents of the value chain, public and private entities, with the aim of enhancing the value of productions and products, as well as improving the value chains themselves and strengthening the productive fabric.
To optimize the management of these products, we quantify their value and promote investments in the territory. To achieve our objectives, we use field data obtained through sensor technologies (IoT) and also employ remote sensing data.
Our work drives the development of associated business units, mainly in rural and regional forestry environments. In addition, we strive to identify new products or derivatives, develop environmentally and economically sustainable management models, and contribute to the establishment and conservation of the ever-changing green infrastructure. In this way, we ensure the continuity and sustainability of forest resource utilization.

PROBLEMS IT SOLVES

Our R&D&I work is focused on preserving and enhancing the importance of economic activities rooted in the territory that have little market penetration. These activities are managed by traditional sectorial structures that are in a phase of maturity and do not have development alternatives based on innovation. The limited economic entity of these structures prevents them from facing challenges such as biotic disturbances or adaptation to climate change. This is where we come in, providing tailor-made solutions to help them overcome these difficulties. Our innovative approach and technical skills enable them to tackle complex challenges and find new development opportunities. We work closely with these traditional structures, providing them with technical support and expertise to boost their growth and sustainability in a constantly changing environment.
Our center is a major player in the management of multifunctional forest systems, and our work focuses on enhancing the value of forest products and products, developing sustainable value chains and promoting innovation in the sector. Through our experience, we collaborate closely with entities and agents of the sector to overcome challenges and promote sustainable and economically viable forestry development.
