In our center we have a multidisciplinary team made up of experts in biotechnology, forest management and natural resources, dedicated to plant health and biocontrol of forest pests and diseases.
Our activities focus on the identification of biotic disturbances, such as pests and diseases, in forest systems.
To do so, we use remote sensing technologies that allow us to identify and evaluate the development and impact of these disturbances at the landscape scale.
In addition, we use omics techniques (techniques that allow us to study a large number of molecules involved in the functioning of an organism) to certify the presence of pathogens in plants, crops and forest systems.
We also have the capacity to carry out biocontrol trials using organisms present in the natural environment.
This means that we evaluate and propose the use of biological control organisms to combat pests and diseases in forestry.
Our goal is to find sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions to protect the health of forests and ensure their good condition.
The introduction of quarantine organisms can cause significant damage to the natural environment and generate irreversible economic losses in rural forest areas.
These organisms pose a threat to forest health and natural resources, as they can spread devastating pests and diseases.
Our work focuses on addressing this problem through early identification of biotic disturbances, their evaluation and control through biocontrol techniques.
The application of solutions based on biological control organisms allows us to reduce dependence on chemical pesticides and promote biodiversity conservation in forest ecosystems.
In addition, by using remote detection and monitoring technologies, we can identify and act efficiently against potential threats, thus minimizing the negative impact on forest health and the rural economy.
