Biological and thermochemical processes to reduce impact and valorize organic wastes

We develop advanced technologies for waste valorization and recovery of products of interest. Our approach is based on biological and thermochemical processes that allow us to convert different types of organic waste into useful resources and reduce their environmental impact.
– Our experts work on the design and development of organic waste treatment processes using techniques such as anaerobic (co)digestion, dark fermentation, the use of microalgae and bio-electrochemical processes. These technologies allow waste to be efficiently decomposed, generating biogas and by-products that can be used as organic fertilizers.
– In addition, we specialize in the development of technologies for separation/ upgrading and improvement of gas mixtures resulting from waste valorization. This allows us to obtain higher quality gases and maximize their energetic use.
– Another key aspect of our work is the treatment of waste plastics and composites. Through depolymerization processes, we recover valuable monomers and gases that can be used in the production of new materials. We also focus on the recovery of composite fibers, thus contributing to the circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of these materials. We also design and develop thermochemical processes for organic waste treatment (biomass and plastics), and design waste pretreatment strategies (lignocellulosic and others).
– In effluent treatment, we develop advanced technologies for water reuse. Our processes allow us to eliminate emerging and recalcitrant contaminants, ensuring the quality of treated water. In addition, we focus on the recovery of nutrients from waste streams, such as struvite, biologically stabilized manure and digestate, for subsequent use as natural fertilizers.

PROBLEMS IT SOLVES

Our technology and services address various waste and effluent management issues. We face the challenge of managing livestock manure, streams with high organic load from the agri-food industry, plastics and composites, seeking to reduce their environmental impact and find sustainable ways to treat them.
In addition, our work contributes to reducing dependence on finite resources for nutrients. By recovering and reusing nutrients present in waste, we can replace the use of mineral fertilizers and promote more sustainable practices in agriculture.
Our processes are also multifunctional, as they not only treat waste streams, but also enable the recovery of nutrients and the generation of electricity. In this way, we promote the circular economy and the production of renewable energy.
